Welcome to St. Johns NS! I hope you and your child enjoy your time with us.
My name is Kate O’Brien, and I am the Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) Coordinator for our school.
The aim of this scheme is to promote partnership and collaboration between home, school and the community to enable every child to get the most out of their education.
We understand that school is an exciting, challenging, rewarding and sometimes difficult experience for students and parents alike. The HSCL scheme tries to make school life as enjoyable as possible. It recognises the key role of parents and the home environment, and seeks to
strengthen ties between home life and school life.
HSCL Contact: I am available to chat about any matters concerning parents.
Most mornings I can be found in the school yard. Otherwise parents can phone the school number or the HSCL phone on 0867009027. My email address is katehsclstjohns@gmail.com.
Home Visits: Throughout the year, I try to visit as many parents as possible. Please don’t be alarmed if I call to your home, I’m only stopping by for a quick chat about school matters, as I was in your area.
Courses: The HSCL scheme recognises that parents are the primary educators of their children. We therefore constantly try to support parents by facilitating a wide variety of free classes and talks running in the school and in local venues. This is a great opportunity for parents to share in their children’s school life and work alongside them. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in doing any courses. Course notices will be posted on our school social media channels and on our website. I will also send home information with your child. The following are some of the classes/talks that were requested and attended by parents in the school to date: Cookery, Relaxation, Computers, Art, Knitting, Assertiveness, Parenting, Singing, Style and Image, Flower Arranging and Christmas Crafts, Operation Transformation.
I would love to hear your ideas for this year.
Community Links: The HSCL Coordinator does not work in isolation in the school. The scheme is constantly making links with other agencies and community groups involved in the wider school area
